One of the most important parts of swimming pool care and maintenance is keeping the water properly balanced and clean with the right chemicals. While the learning of this process can take a few cycles of testing, many people catch on quickly and are able to test and balance their own swimming pool water. What remains a question for many pool owners, however, is how often swimming pool water testing should be performed. Here at S & H Pools, we wanted to explore this common question.
When we are asked how often swimming pool water testing should be performed, unfortunately the most common answer is that it varies. Different types of swimming pools require different frequencies of swimming pool water testing. For example, if you have a commercial pool, then your chlorine levels should be checked hourly, whereas a residential pool’s chlorine levels only need checks 2-4 times each week, or maybe a bit more if your pool use is frequent. Your pH levels will be tested alongside the chlorine levels. Other things such as alkalinity, total dissolved solids, and calcium hardness need less frequent testing, with anywhere from weekly to monthly checks.
Swimming pool water testing can often feel like a monotonous and tedious task. For this reason, many people choose to outsource their pool care to a professional pool company like ours at S & H Pools.
