Hot tubs are always warm and relaxing, especially on a cold night. But just like swimming pools, water testing is an essential part to maintaining your hot tub. Here are some essential tips you need to know to conduct hot tub water testing.
- When to Take Your Sample – Take your sample when the hot tub is not running.
- How to Collect Your Sample – While using a clean and clear glass, dip the glass elbow deep into the water and collect the hot tub water into your glass. This will be all the water you will need for testing.
- Using Test Strips – Take a test strip and dip it into the sampled water, wait about 15 seconds. After 15 seconds, compare the colors on the strip with the colors on the associated chart that came with the test strips.
- Using Test Kit – Use the testing container within your kit to take a sample of your hot tub water. Add 4 drops of OTO to the yellow side and 4 drops of Phenol to the red side. OTO tests the chlorine levels and Phenol tests the PH levels. Covering your kit, shake it to mix. Then, compare the color of your samples to each chart to see if your levels are high or low.
