Your swimming pool pump is the heart of your pool. It draws the water from the pool and pushes it past the filter and returns it to the pool. Your entire pool’s ability to work properly is dictated by your swimming pool pump.

Everything You Need to Know About Swimming Pool Pumps

When to Run Swimming Pool Pumps

Should you run your pump during the day or at night? There are a few things to consider when deciding when to run your swimming pool pump. Ideally you would want to run your pump when you add chlorine to your pool so that it reaches all areas of your pool. This would lead to assume that running your pump during the day would be the best time. But in some areas the cost of electricity is significantly higher during the day and therefore running your swimming pool pump at night would be best.

How Long to Run Swimming Pool Pumps

The length of time you run your pool pump is determined by the chemical demands and filtration. During the summer months, your pool will have a higher demand for chemicals because of its use and debris that may enter the pool. During the winter months, it may be less. The rule of thumb is to run your pool pump for 112 minutes for every 10 degrees Fahrenheit of outside air temperature.
