At S & H Pools, we understand that you want to enjoy your pool as much as possible, which means it’s only natural that you’d want a way to be able to swim comfortably throughout the year. When it comes to swimming pool heaters, there are a number of options available, and it can be difficult to know which one is right for you. In this article, we’ll go over a few of the most popular types of heaters to help you make the best decision for your needs.

A Buyer’s Guide to Swimming Pool Heaters

  • Solar Swimming Pool Heaters- One type of pool heater uses solar power to do its job. Solar pool heaters pump water out of your pool and run it through solar collectors in order to warm it before returning it to the pool once more. This option is great for those who want to be eco-friendly, and the energy savings they provide will pay for the cost of installation. However, they may not be the best choice for you if your home does not get a lot of direct sunlight.
  • Gas Swimming Pool Heaters- Another type of pool heater that we offer here at S & H Pools is a gas heater. With this type of heater, water from the pool is pumped into a combustion chamber where a propane- or natural gas-powered flame raises its temperature, and the warmed water is then returned to the pool. A gas heater can raise the water temperature faster than a solar heater, and it can be used in any weather conditions. However, gas heaters tend to have shorter lifespans, averaging just five years to a solar heater’s 15-20.

We at S & H Pools hope that this introduction to two of the main varieties of swimming pool heaters helps make your decision process easier. If you have further questions, don’t hesitate to give us a call.
